Waiting to Exhale, an adaptation of a best selling book about four black women learning to move on while leaning on one another, was a watershed moment for both R&B music and Black Cinema. The film adaptation was directed by esteemed actor Forrest Whittacker, and starred Whitney Houston, Angela Bassett, Lela Rochon, and Loretta Devine.
The film came at an intense time in Whitney Houston's life, as she'd just come of the highly succesful Bodyguard film and world tour.
