Waterberg Plateau Namibia and it's location

Описание: Towering some 200 metres above the surrounding landscape, with sheer cliffs and fascinating rock formations, Waterberg Mountain Park has over 200 bird species, including the only breeding colony of Cape vulture and is managed as a breeding area for rare and endangered species, including black and white rhinoceros, disease-free buffalo, sable and roan antelope.

The Waterberg Plateau Park is located near Otjiwarongo in central Namibia and the actual game park itself where the animals are is on top of the plateau which rises 400 metres from the surrounding area. Covering 405 square kilometres waterberg means water mountain as there is a natural spring that rises up under the plateau and surfaces on the lower slopes of the Waterberg Plateau giving life to the area.

The Waterberg Plateau became a nature reserve in 1972 after numerous species that were considered endangered were relocated from various areas around Namibia to protect them, these include Sable, Black Rhino, White Rhino, Eland, Buffalo, Giraffe and Roan.

With a good supply of water and good vegitation the Waterberg Plateau and surrounding area is asupports a lot of bird life including Namibias only breeding habitat for Cape Vultures.
