A 24-year-old law student from South Calcutta Law College has alleged she was gangraped on campus, in a case that's sent shockwaves through the city. According to her police complaint, the assault took place on June 25 inside the college premises—where she was not only raped, but also beaten with a hockey stick and secretly filmed. The video was then allegedly used to blackmail her with threats of it being leaked online.
The prime accused, Manojit Mishra, a college staff member, also allegedly threatened to kill the survivor’s boyfriend. Two others — 19-year-old Zaib Ahmed and 20-year-old Pramit Mukherjee, both students — were also arrested. All three were produced in court and remanded to four days in police custody.
The incident has brought back chilling echoes of horrific RG Kar rape & murder case.
