"I think Kerry's going to be stronger. I think Bush has had four years to correct the economy, I think it's only got worse. We've lost a lot of jobs, a number of companies are out-sourcing. I think it's becoming more of any issue with Bush and I think Kerry has just a little better plan."

8. SOUNDBITE: (English) Ron Westfall, Vox pop:
"This debate and the second one - President Bush has come out stronger. Because, for one, the Social Security issue, secondly, also in terms of being able to address health care reform, being able to pinpoint what he's done while in office versus while Kerry was in the Senate for 20 years basically was a whole lot of nothing."

10. SOUNDBITE: (English) Adam Eisenberg, Vox pop:
"Tonight George Bush is handling himself but I don't buy into what he's saying. I think that John Kerry has the better answer for this country."
11. SOUNDBITE: (English) Peggy McDonald, Vox pop:
"Bush's policy as far as the domestic economy is good and he did kind of enforce that and come across a little strong in some of his strategy there, but overall the most important thing to me is foreign policy and I think that he sabotaged it."

15. SOUNDBITE: (English) Walter Mears, Associated Press Political Analyst:
"I thought that each of them did probably what he set out to do - you could pretty much say about the second debate. In the series overall with three debates I think John Kerry came away with more pluses out of the debates than President Bush did. Essentially the debates put Kerry back into the race on an even footing which is about where it stands now."

17. SOUNDBITE: (English) Walter Mears, Associated Press Political Analyst:
"I think what happens now depends greatly on what each man does for himself solo now apart from the debate sequence. The debates dominate things for a while when they're on. They're off, they're over, and these two men have to go out and make their cases independently and individually. I think President Bush played to his base through all of the debates. He did it again in the third debate. This whole business of Kerry is the liberal, he's far left, is designed to appeal to the conservative Republican base that Bush is so intent on solidifying. I think John Kerry is more bent, while trying to play to the base, he also is trying to reach out I think more than Bush to swing voters, to people outside the base."

STORYLINE:
People watching the third and final US Presidential debate at a bar in Washington DC on Wednesday had mixed reactions to George W. Bush's and John Kerry's stand on domestic issues.
Some people clearly favoured Kerry's performance during the debate over Bush's performance.
But others praised Bush's record on health and social security issues saying the president had a stronger view of domestic policy than Kerry.
However, some said it was Bush's mishandling of foreign policy or his handling of the economy that would play a stronger role in which way they'd vote in November.
Senior Associated Press political reporter Walter Mears has covered presidential campaigns for more than 40 years.
