DIY Modular Cattle Panel Fence | Tips to SAVE Money and TIME
If you're looking to build a cattle panel or hogwire fence, this video is just for you. I will go over topics like cost, tools, building a stepped fence on uneven ground, and how it has held up since budling it late last year.
These are built in a modular way so each section can easily be removed, rebuilt, and replaced if anything happens to them. I also used a Dado blade to have the panel sit inside the wood, this keeps the panel held tight inside the frame and gives you a clean finish while saving money in the process.
Quick Tips For Your Build
•Cattle Panels were bought from Tractor Supply Co. These are 16ft long, 50in tall. Each panel will create 2 sections (8ft sections between posts). Was able to buy them for $29.99 https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/pro...
•Dado blade dimensions for perfect cuts and grooves Width - 3/8" Depth 1/2-5/8" (This gives you some wiggle room in fitting the panel within the grooves).
•Using a Dado for groove cuts will ultimately save you time AND money. Instead of sandwiching two boards together on every side to hold the panel in place (or having to staple the panel to the boards), you can cut grooves in your boards to "lock in" the panel to the wood and create a symmetrical section that has strength and looks great.
•Auger drill is your best friend here for the 4x4 posts, if not post hole diggers and some sweat equity. I buried my posts 2ft in the ground and used Quikrete.
•Each panel will only require 3 8ft 2x4's since you're using a Dado for groove cuts (save money), 2 boards for the top and bottom, and the sides cut in half to 4ft.
•If you would like a nice top rail finished look, I used a 10ft 2x6 on top, cut down to have a 1 1/2" overhang with each section. If your build will be sloped or level you will just keep building and having them run all the way around.
•I built my own gate with 2x4's and gate latch hardware from Lowes/Home Depot, if you need any details on it or pictures just comment below.
