‘You Give Good Love’ was released on February 22, 1985 as the lead single from Whitney Houston’s self titled debut album. It was written by La Forrest 'La La' Cope and produced by Kashif. ‘You Give Good Love’ peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 1 on the Black Singles chart and was certified platinum in the US. On April 5, 1985 Whitney performed the song on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson’, which was her first National TV appearance since her 1983 debut TV appearance on ‘The Merv Griffin Show’.
