Sybil still has control over Damon's mental state. The Siren is convinced that she managed to place herself as number one in his life, hoping that Damon is devoting himself to her .

During the Winter Holiday's he offers Sybil a small present for Christmas. Damon had asked Caroline for help in order to help him find a gift.
Unbeknowst to him, there had been a mix-up by the Saltzmann Twins , and Damon is in possesion of "the necklace that wouldn't die".

Sybil mistakes it as an engament and things that Damon is ready for a deeper relationship with her .
What she does not know is that the necklace has a special meaning to Damon. He starts to remember that his heart belongs to another and recalls also a specific moment between Bonnie and him while there where in 1994.

His brother and friends tried without success to release him from the Siren's spell; it seems as if the necklace is the key of helping Damon to get his memories and emotions back, all which everyone thought was erased by Sybil.

Damon is remembering his true soulmate, the only woman who made him feel loved and alive.
