The Wigwam was one of the world's great high school basketball gyms, located in a state known for its basketball heritage. Indiana has the 6 largest high school gyms in the world, and 13 of the largest 14.
The Wigwam was the second largest, and it was in a city that often had 3 of the state's top 10 ranked high school teams.
During the peak of Hoosier hysteria, the Wigwam was arguably the premier place to watch or play high school basketball in all the world.
Two of Anderson's three schools have closed as the town's has lost some of it's economic pillars and it's population has declined. And even if that weren't a part of the story, American culture and Indiana culture have moved away from this deep love given over to such a local concern.
I'm not from Anderson, and the Wigwam's heyday was long before my time, but I've been hearing about the place all my life - from people all over the state - and finally decided I would try to capture a little bit of Indiana history through this legendary gym.
The Anderson Indians no longer play there, because the nearly 9,000 seat capacity is far too big for the crowds of today.

I guess you could call them the glory days
We all had faith in the factories
And the town got hot when the winter came
Yeah, you oughta seen them boys play the game
I know those days are past and gone
But I lay awake sometimes
Dreaming of the Wigwam
Every man and woman and child
Around this town for 20 miles
Would fill this gym with an energy
But now it's only a memory
I know those days are past and gone
But I lay awake sometimes
Dreaming of the Wigwam
It's not for the love of the game
That I am pining
But I believe that once
Upon a time in
This old town
In the winter weather
We came together
I know those days are past and gone
But I lay awake sometimes
Dreaming of the Wigwam
