Here's a suggestion for pulling nails from a pallet stringer. I typically use a reciprocating saw to take apart my pallets when I just want to use the pallet strips. I run the saw blade between the pallet strips and the stringer, but this leaves cut nails in the stringers.
When I plan on using the stringers, I typically use my circular saw to cut the pallet strips along the stingers. After knocking off the little chunks of wood still attached to the stringers, I use my vise to help pull out the nails.
My thought is to always work smart, not hard. Using the leverage of the stringer with the vice makes pulling out the nails very easy.
