In this video, we explain the Reactivity of Alkenes in detail, focusing on why alkenes readily undergo electrophilic addition reactions.
We also cover two major concepts that control the reaction mechanism:
🔹 Carbocation Stability
•
• Hyperconjugation and inductive effects contribute to carbocation stability.
🔹 Inductive Effect (+I Effect)
• Electron-releasing alkyl groups push electron density toward the carbocation.
• This stabilizes the positively charged carbon.
• As the number of alkyl groups increases → stability increases.
This lecture follows Chapter 11 – Hydrocarbons (1st Year Chemistry) from the new syllabus.
