Sandy is most remembered for the devastating storm surge along portions of the Mid-Atlantic coastline, including the Jersey Coast through the NYC area. However, the blizzard on the cold side of the "Frankenstorm" was also historic, with 2-4 FEET of snow accumulating at the highest elevations of the central Appalachians.
This video is from Elkins, WV just as the blizzard was getting started. The feeling was very confusion during this storm, because the smell in the air reminded me of a hurricane, but what I saw with my eyes was a blizzard. There was a lot of rain mixed win with the very heavy snow and massive flakes that night 2 years ago, and the snow stuck to everything, causing power outages and flashes that would illuminate the whole mountain sky for the entire night.
