In which I do an in-depth and entirely too detailed review of the Thermarest Prolite Apex sleeping pad based on my almost two years of owning and using this pad. I bought this pad to use in colder weather after being uncomfortable with some of the thicker inflatable pads and tired of spending $150+ for an insulated inflatable pad only to find it didn't work for me. I figured that because I always slept fine on self-inflating pads when I started backpacking, I might as well try going back to a self-inflating pad. After dozens of nights on the Prolite Apex, I can say that it does the job good enough. Not the lightest, not the thickest, not the highest r-value, but a good deal for the price you pay.
