Описание: Sheikh Rohail Asghar Opens Up About Politics, Leadership & Pakistan’s Challenges on 'Front Foot' Podcast

In a candid conversation on Khabrain Digital's podcast Front Foot, senior PML-N leader and former Member of National Assembly, Sheikh Rohail Asghar, stated, “I’m not a leader, just an ordinary man. My father was in politics, and I entered it at his insistence. Politics should be seen as a means of service. If your attitude is wrong and thinking is negative, democracy cannot flourish.”

He criticized the tendency to blame politicians for everything and said, “Has anyone ever thought about who makes a politician? The people know best who their real leader is. Rejection by the public is the biggest punishment for any politician.”

Refusing to accept the politics around Form 45 and 47, he said, “If you don’t have the courage, don’t contest elections. And if the caretaker PM made such a statement, he was the most incompetent person who should be punished.”

Referring to personalized politics, he said, “Wherever there’s personality-driven politics, things will be as chaotic as they are now. I’ve always told Imran Khan to only do what won’t cause pain in the future. Sadly, once in power, we forget everything and act like gods.”

Talking about the political culture, he remarked, “You can earn wealth or respect in politics — it’s up to you. Nawaz Sharif used to be a refined, kind-hearted man. But even a stone starts dancing if you praise it too much.”

Highlighting the economic divide and flawed priorities, he added, “Elections in Pakistan have become so expensive that a common man can’t even think of contesting. We look down on beggars on the street, but have lined people up at our own doors — aren’t we making the nation beggars?”

He questioned foreign policy choices: “We’re buying expensive oil from Saudi Arabia while Iran offers it cheaper — but we fear America’s displeasure. How long will this fear last? Iran has already laid the gas pipeline to our border, but we didn’t proceed.”

Criticizing overdependence on the IMF and expensive IPP electricity, he warned: “If the federal government doesn’t improve, how can the provinces perform? A wheat crisis is looming. Farmers will suffer if pricing isn’t managed. Marium Nawaz must plan to protect them.”

He also urged practical reforms: “Instead of subsidizing Orange Line, Speedo, and electric buses, focus on production and employment. You're making milk plans for school kids — who will give milk to the 20 million children out of school?”

He added: “Provide education, healthcare, and jobs, not just buses. Build infrastructure. It feels like this country is made only for the rich. The poor have no one to speak for them.”

Calling for stronger civilian institutions, he said, “We call the army in during floods and disasters — why not strengthen civil institutions so we don’t need to call them at all?”

Finally, he criticized urban development projects: “Under the Ruda project, fertile lands are being bought cheap and turned into elite colonies. I had long ago advised Shahbaz Sharif to build large reservoirs around rivers like Ravi to store floodwater for agriculture throughout the year.”
