বিএসএফ জানিয়েছে, এই সময়কালে ৭১৬ জন বাংলাদেশি ধরা পড়েন, যার মধ্যে ৩০১ জন হিন্দু ও ৪১৫ জন মুসলিম। তবে ধরা পড়া হিন্দু অনুপ্রবেশকারীদের বেশিরভাগই বাংলাদেশে অত্যাচার বা নির্যাতনের অভিযোগ তোলেননি।

বিশ্লেষকদের মতে, হিন্দুত্ববাদী রাজনৈতিক গোষ্ঠীগুলোর দাবি ছিল যে, শেখ হাসিনার পতনের পর বাংলাদেশে হিন্দুদের ওপরে নির্যাতন বেড়েছে এবং তারা ভারতে পালিয়ে আসছেন। কিন্তু এই পরিসংখ্যান সেই দাবি নস্যাৎ করেছে।
