Thirty-five year old Nikola comes back home to his family after a long absence. His parents, Vlado and Anica, arrived in Germany from Croatia in the 1970s with nothing but hopes for a better life in their suitcase, and a dream: to own a hotel on the Croatian Adriatic coast. Vlado's relationship with his three sons suffered from his grim determination to achieve this goal. The eldest son, Nikola, a successful pop musician, left home after a bitter fight with him. Branko, the middle son, is now dead and Jozo, the youngest son, is due to return home to Croatia with his parents. On the eve of their departure, Nikola tells Jozo the truth about Branko's death: their brother committed suicide after participating in the Yugoslavian Civil War. Nikola then reveals that he's not a successful musician at all; instead he's an unemployed bohemian with no money or goal in life. In the meantime, Jozo has fallen in love with a German girl and no longer knows where he belongs. It seems as if Vlado and Anica have now lost all three sons.
