This week, I walked my usual route to the train station. Same path, same pavements but I slowed down. On purpose. I asked myself: what might I see if I wasn’t rushing? I tried to wander and wonder.
I noticed what caught my eye. Not the big, obvious things, but the tiny hidden, interesting shapes and patterns, motifs and moments.
Noticing became a kind of tuning fork, helping me to tune back into my own visual sensitivities. That part of me that’s sensitive to shape and pattern. Line and contrast. Colour and texture. And in this video I take you with me on my walk and share how I used what I saw to experiment and play in my sketchbook.
📝 I’ve written a short blog to go alongside this video, which includes links to the materials I am using in this video, you can read it here → https://helenwellsartist.com/blogsand...
🌿 If this kind of art exercise sparks something in you, you might enjoy Nature and Nurture. A calm, creative class where you’ll learn to gather from the natural world and create layered mixed media art in response. https://helenwellsartist.com/nature-a...
I’m curious, do you collect shapes, textures, or patterns from your surroundings? What’s one that’s stuck with you lately? Share your inspiration in the comments.
