The song is a cover of the English-language "Flames of Love" song by Fancy, a German synth-pop artist popular in the 1980s. The cover is set in the 1960s, adding a line about the Eastern Front to depict it as a German soldier's slaughter in our beloved TNO (The New Order) universe. Despite its original romantic theme, I believe the song perfectly captures what can happen to a man driven mad by war. Imagine a soldier humming this song in his mind to the whistle of bullets and the rumble of artillery, displaying military cynicism and deep psychological trauma (dissociation). He's detached from reality and ignoring death, replacing terror with love—a consequence, of course, of the intense adrenaline that soldiers often experience in trench warfare. That's how I imagine it, but you're welcome to share your own opinion.
