The passive shoulder compression test is used to evaluate for glenoid labral tears and glenohumeral arthritis. The patient is in the lateral decubitus position, affected arm up. Examiner abducts the arm 30 degrees and then slowly passively internally and externally rotates the arm. Simultaneously, apply an axial load and slowly extend the shoulder. A positive test is reproduction of the patient's pain.
