In this short series of videos, I discuss ALL NINE Distinction Indicators. The Distinction Indicators are traditionally known as "relative pronouns." Relative Pronoun is a poor phrasal term, so I changed it. (See my video series entitled "That" for a thorough explanation of the Distinction Indicator, the Distinction Phrase, and the Distinction Clause.)
Distinction Indicators (the so-called "Relative Pronouns")
That
Who
Whom
Which
What
Whoever
Whomever
Whichever
Whatever
The key points of this videos are (1) to show that the word "that" is NOT the only Distinction Indicator; (2) to show HOW the "abstract pro-form" is realized in different grammatical ways and, sometimes, through MORE than one abstract step; and (3) how "referents" are critical, whether they be clearly "given" or discovered--through a systematic process.
