With this 3.73 ratio 7.5 inch Ford the pinion shaft pin is left in the carrier to removed the Axle retaining C clips. The pinion lock bolt is removed. Then the pinion shaft pin is moved slightly, rotated so the slots allow the axles to move inwards to remove the C clip. This tends to happen with "Short/ Lower gears that have higher numbers. ie 4.11, 4.56 etc. The Ring GEAR will not allow the pinion shaft to be removed, thus it has a Notch/step in it.
