Daimler-Benz DB 605 aircraft engine. This German inverted V12, liquid-cooled engine was used extensively during World War II, notably powering the Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter.
It was developed from the DB 601 engine, featuring a larger displacement (35.7 litres) and higher maximum RPM, increasing power output.
The inverted V-12 configuration offered advantages such as a lower center of gravity and improved pilot visibility.
The engine utilized a direct fuel injection system, a significant advantage in combat as it prevented engine cut-outs under negative G forces, unlike many carbureted Allied engines at the time.
It employed a dry sump oil system, common for military aero engines during that era.
Original examples of this engine are now highly valued and typically found in major engine collections and museums, such as the RAF Museum in Hendon. #mercedes #planes #ww2
