Today's unboxing review is of a full-size truck that we don't think gets enough respect, the Toyota Tundra. Specifically, we tested the Tundra Limited CrewMax. Yes, this is a big sucker. Powered by a naturally aspirated 5.7-liter V8 with 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque, power is sent to all four wheels on demand via a six-speed automatic transmission. The base engine is also a V8 and that's just fine by us. With a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 lbs. our tester was both luxurious and a hard worker. It did everything we asked of it and much more.
Built in America, the Tundra has always somewhat struggled against Detroit's full-size trucks, such as the Ford F-150, but perhaps the Tundra's secret weapon is, ironically, its age; this generation debuted nearly a decade ago. Why can that be seen as a plus? Because there's nothing wrong with an old school truck in terms of engine, towing capacity, and overall simplicity. Oh, and when nearly fully-loaded, it's a lot less expensive than many new F-150s. Enjoy the review!
