In this Mugg Customs episode, I’m shortening the stock Bronco steering column so it bolts right up to the Crown Vic steering shaft. We cut, weld, test fit, and try not to mess it up — all while keeping the tilt function and shifter linkage.
Along the way, I cover:
Crown Vic security key issues and how to work around them
Cutting & welding a steering column for the perfect fit
Hand-grinding the Bronco shaft to fit the Crown Vic’s D-shape input
Building the shortest tilt column I’ve ever seen
Wiring the Crown Vic ignition switch and labeling every circuit
Installing oil pressure & temperature sensors
Shop tips for making the Bronco + Crown Vic steering setup work smoothly
This BroncoVic project is basically a Bronco on a Crown Vic frame — a combo that’s going to be a blast once it’s finished. There’s still more to do: floors, dash parts, and maybe even a little boost down the road.
If you’ve ever built or hacked a steering column like this, drop a comment — I’d love to see your approach. And if you’re into Crown Vic swaps and custom fabrication, subscribe so you don’t miss the next chapter.
