34 videos later, here we are at the end of MarathonMode, and what a way to celebrate! Destiny Islands has been a song I've wanted to cover forever, I just couldn't find the right way to do it. Then a few months ago, I had the idea to arrange the tune for big band, something I'd been wanting to get into for a long time. With the planning and hype of Marathon Mode, this seemed like the perfect time to share my very first video game big band arrangement on my channel.

My arrangement of Destiny Islands was inspired heavily by a Bob Mintzer chart called "Happy Song", a chart I'm very familiar with as my university jazz band plays it every year at commencement ceremonies in the Spring. My goal in this arrangement was to maintain some of the calm, joyful feeling of Destiny Islands, while borrowing some of the excitement and upbeat nature and textures from the Mintzer tune. I also tried to reflect a little bit of that excitement in editing this video with a couple of new tricks

I would be remissed if I didn't take a moment to thank my amazing friends and collaborators for making this video what it is. Everything from Jacob screaming above the band to Carlos' cleverly crafted solo made this musically such a treat to put together, and the behind the scenes mix advice from so many of my collaborators really helped turn this into a more polished final product that I could not be happier with. As a whole, no this video is not perfect, but I had a great time working with friends and am incredibly proud of the work we all did.

I hope you enjoyed this Kingdom Hearts jazz cover! Now that #MarathonMode is over, I'll be taking a moment to rest and prepare for the coming semester - I plan for my next cover to come out on August 17th!
