My recently purchased Webber Roundbody guitar. This is David's signature guitar, it has a solid spruce top with solid rosewood back and sides with an ebony fretboard and a lovely abalone shell rosette and abalone purfling. The "W" on the headstock is also inlayed with abalone. David Webber is a world renowned luthier residing in North Vancouver, Canada and I heard and read nothing but praise for his work and I now know that to be true, this guitar is superbly crafted. It feels and plays amazingly well. The mahogany neck is extremely comfortable and the tone is clear and balanced.
I'm not an accomplished acoustic player, my strength is electric guitar, but I wanted to start playing more acousticly and thought what better way than getting a top notch instrument to facilitate that.
I'm playing (improvising, as usual) in DADGAD tuning in the minor (dorian minor) mode, until about 7:54, where I modulate to D major. There's some mild distortion present, which I didn't notice, as I was monitoring the source signal at my Allen & Heath14:4:2 mixer, not the recorded signal, and didn't notice that the input was peaking a bit. It's not too bad, so I decided to keep the take.
The signal chain I used was the onboard Highlander IP-2 UST panned about 75% to the left and an AT4033 mic aimed at the soundhole (10" away), panned 75% to the right, recorded into Protools LE. The IP-2 signal went through a passive Ludahl P-1 Pro Direct box and the AT4033 went direct to the mixer, then out to Protools.
