The sutra is considered one of the rare vedic chants as part of jyotish remedies. Ketu is the Moola Nakshatra Lord and ruling deity is Nirriti.

मूला नक्षत्र सूत्रम्, 'मूला' नक्षत्र के लिए एक मंत्र भजन है जो धनु राशी में 0 डिग्री से लेकर 13 डिग्री 20 मिनट तक फैला हुआ है। यह सूत्र एक दुर्लभ वैदिक मंत्र है जिसे ज्योतिष उपाय की श्रेणी में रखा जाता है। केतु, मूला नक्षत्र के स्वामी माने जाते हैं और नक्षत्र की शासक देवी हैं निरित्ती।

The Taittiriya Upanishad, a part of the Krishna Yajur Veda, mentions about Nakshatras which are collection of Stars forming a particular shape in the sky. In Rasi chakra, each Nakshatra spans 13 degree 20 minutes.

The Nakshatra Sutrams are the devotional hymns pertaining to the Nakshatras. Nakshatra Sutrams are powerful remedial mantras used as a sattvik remedy for afflictions caused in horoscope due to nakshatras. In vedic astrology, it is said that if anyone wants to become an astrologer who is well versed in remedial part of astrological science, she/he needs to be extremely thorough in chanting the nakshatra sutrams.

Listening to Moola Nakshatra Sutram is beneficial for persons having natal Moon in the Moola or Mula Nakshatra.
