Details regarding my build (perks & legendary perks), gear (weapon & armor), mutations & buffs are tacked onto the end of this video. Backstory & comments below:
I started A Colossal Problem, but no one else showed up, so I decided to see whether I could, for my first time ever, solo Earle Williams.
I'm a full-health stealth archer build, and although I'm always pretty stealthy, I'd used a sneak bobblehead and was otherwise well buffed for this fight. I was not, however, in my CSS, nor was I using any Stealth Boys.
Consequently, Earle never really saw me — I was in "caution" for essentially the entire fight. And I kept him beyond melee range simply by staying under the drop-down framing (which the wendigos can get under, but he's too tall to duck beneath). As a result, and as on previous occasions when I'd stealth-solo'd his (considerably easier) brother Randall, Earle only ever summoned one wendigo during the entire fight. The downside of no wendigos, though, was that I had nothing to kill to pump up my DPS from level 5 Adrenaline.
Even more surprisingly, Earle did not heal from 50% back to full! I can't account for that. Your comments or guesses below are welcome. [See update below]
Normally in this fight when I'm part of a group, I use exploding arrows, augmented promiscuously by Nuka-Grenades, to clear clumps of wendigos with lots of splash damage for XP. But I didn't throw any grenades at all in this fight, and my explosive splash damage on Earle was, of course, almost nonexistent. So if I try soloing him again, I'll switch to ultracite arrows and ditch the grenade perks for a couple more points of archery. I can squeeze out a little more consistent DPS with those tweaks.
The biggest lesson learned in this particular fight: DON'T BE UNDER THE DROP-DOWN AT THE MOMENT EARLE DIES OR YOU WILL BE INSTA-KILLED BY THE FALLING ROCKS! This (at 5:50 of the video) was completely unexpected — and utterly hilarious.
I felt like Wile E. Coyote!

Update: I'm seeing reports elsewhere that Bethesda, in attempting to adjust or prolong spawns of Spooky Scorched for its Halloween event, accidentally made it possible for SBQ and Earle to spawn as non-legendary versions of themselves. And that appears to be what happened in this fight, and to be the explanation for why Earle didn't heal from 50% back to full health.
