Explore the complex legacy of Saartjie Baartman, a South African woman whose body was exploited and objectified in the 19th century. Our webinar delves into the politics of representation, intersectionality, and the ongoing impact of colonialism and racism.
Speakers:
Luvuyo Mabe’s pronouns are she/they; they are a gender nonbinary bisexual creative, feminist and socialist. They have explored many different forms of creative expression, one of their first loves being reading and writing, as well as fibre arts. Having written academically, and built a social media presence around sharing feminist ideas, they have also collaborated with Unam Ntsababa on Black Women for Sale: the Saartjie Baartman Story published on IQOQO.org. They are a notorious jester.
Unam Ntsababa is a copywriter, journalist, and visual artist known for covering diverse topics related to African culture, creativity, and social issues. She has contributed to various publications, including IQOQO, IQhawe Magazine and Between 10and5. Ntsababa’s writing often highlights the intersections of art, identity, and activism, aiming to shed light on underrepresented narratives and voices within the African continent.
Galaletsang Blessing Mashego is a non-binary, bisexual, activist with a particular focus on feminism. They have a particular love for verbal and written communication evidenced through their blog titled "Galiiey Speaks ".They are currently a student leader at the Gender Equity Units Loud Enuf Programme, where they facilitate various sessions aimed at queer advocacy and fostering a safe space for all.
