Welcome to bicycle restoration no 2 – part II, finally!
First of all, sorry that it took so long to get part II finished.
A lot of has happened in the meantime. And somehow this project did get a little out of hand. Some of the original ideas have changed, some have never been done.
Because of some technical problems I had to split part II into two chapters. Don’t ask why, that’s the way things are.
However, in 2011 / 2012 I got my first contact with brazing. Then years later I rediscovered it in the context of the Stricker project.
So part II - chapter I shows you how I restarted with this kind of metalworking and fired up the torch.
I’ll show you the filletbrazing or just brazing of cantilever brake bosses (or sockets) and other braze-ons like eyelets, sockets for the taillight and a toolbox as well as reinforcements for the internal wire routing.
The hardest part was building a front rack carrier. But it came out very nice I think. Unfortunately I didn’t film every step of the porteur rack building. Most of the time I was too busy with the process itself.
In chapter I you can also see the overhauling of a NOS Fichtel & Sachs rear coaster hub from 1950 as well as a NOS front hub.
The wheelbuilding and truing in this video was kept short, you can see it in my first video - bicycle restoration no 1. Or in other vids here on YouTube.
In general I didn’t take the time to film every step of all parts that were built or restored during this project. Sorry for that, but I got a normal life and YouTube is just a very, very small part of it.
If you are interested, visit my Instagram account. There you can see every step that was made, every part that has been restored or built.
I tried to include some of those Instagram pictures in the video to get everything in the right context, hope this kind of documentation is not to boring for you.
The frameset, the front rack and the fenders will get some fresh powder coating (for those who complained that in my first restoration video were I kept the old painting).
The result of this will be shown in part III or a little bit earlier on my Instagram account.
I used a Sony FDR-AX53 cam.
The machinery I used are from Makita, Bosch and Paulimot, the other tools are mainly from Gedore, Hazet, Wiha, Parktool and my grandfather.
If you have any questions about the video, the bicycle, the tools or the cam just ask me in the comments.
Hope you enjoy watching my new video.
Visit my Instagram accout, there you see the latest progress of the bike.
