I love easy fabrication tips that save time and improve quality, so here’s a super quick way to copy one tube notch or cope to its mirrored version, or just to make the same one again:
First, cope the first tube you’ll want to copy or mirror. Get it just right and the tightest fit you can manage.
Then, wrap that tube in poster board or something about as thick. Cardboard is too thick, notebook paper will do okay, but it’s also thin and tears easily.
Trim the paper to exactly match the tubing (I use a razor blade) to create the tube cope profile template.
If you’re just copying the same cope, pop a new piece of tube in the template, mark, and cut!
If you’re mirroring, unwrap the template, flip it over, and rewrap it around a new piece of tube, now inverted from original, mark, and cut!
And voila, now you have a tool to duplicate that perfect notch or cope and even mirror it!

Bonus: a barrel/spiral abrasive (attached to a die grinder) in the same relative diameter as the mating tube is darned handy.
