Sprinting requires more rest than conditioning
📘 This is important to know if you are taking the CSCS Exam.
When it comes to conditioning with short bouts of high intensity exercise (ex: bike sprints, repeated broad jumps, rower, etc.) we want to use a 1:12-1:20 work to rest ratio.
📊 Ex: 10 seconds of work: 120-200 seconds of rest.
When it comes to sprinting, we want to rest approximately 1 minute per 10 meters of top speed work.
💥 This is to ensure that athletes are hitting true maximal speed.
Shortening rest to just 2-3 minutes after a 40m-50m sprint could lead to ~1-5% loss of speed and make the speed training less effective.
