So, how do you start your veggie patch from scratch? In this episode of Green Space, Fabian Capomolla from The Hungry Gardener shows us how to create a backyard veggie garden whether you’re starting out for the first time, or have been trying to grow veggies for a while without much success.

“Starting your own veggie patch at home may seem daunting at first. But I’m here to tell you it’s easy, affordable and achievable!” says Fabient.

When it comes to creating your own vegetable garden, Fabian suggests starting small and keeping it simple. While a large veggie patch may provide substantial produce it’s also a lot of hard work. Even if you only have a courtyard, you can start growing in planter boxes and still enjoy some home-grown crops.

It’s important to consider the position of the veggie garden in the backyard and whether that spot gets enough sunlight. Ideally, pick location that receives six to eight hours of sunlight each day.

How often and how much to water plants is also an important consideration, and it can vary depending on soil and species.

Along with whether you want to plant straight into the ground, or utilise a planter box instead. Fabians top tips for starting your veggie garden at home? Invest in quality organic potting mix and position near a tap so it’s easy to water.
