Counterplay Guide to Sol 6S

Hi guys, Hotashi here, and I've got another guide on fighting
back against some tricky tactics from other characters.

So, a couple things about Sol. Sol is crazy. He's fast,
sports extremely powerful offense and defense, amazing
special moves, and powerful neutral propped up almost
solely by a normal called 6S.

Let's discuss 6S. 6S is like... it's a mess. It's fast,
doesn't have a protruding hurtbox until it's recovery,
it's quite massive for how fast it is, and it also moves
Sol forward, but it has a hefty recovery period. Now, that's sort
of negated by the fact that since Nagoriyuki is so fat and generally
only moves around on a horizontal axis, Nagoriyuki can rarely
move out of the way of it.

For key data, the move has 15 frames of startup, 20 frames of recovery,
and is -4 on block, completely safe.

So what do we do? Let's talk the worst case scenarios.

#1: Don't get counterhit by 6S if at all possible,
since it leads to a massive conversion for Sol almost anywhere on
the screen - meterless.

#2: If you block 6S, never ever jump forward. It's
free for Sol to antiair with 5K after any of the options he'd do in
that situation, such as Gunflame. You can't always avoid the worst
possible circumstances, but try to as much as possible.

So, what can we do to fight back?

Hitting Sol before 6S comes out is a pretty strong tactic. Alot of
the time, the way neutral goes in the Sol vs Nagoriyuki matchup
is like this: Nagoriyuki simply pushes Sol out and tries to goad
him into approaching in various ways. Sol wants to sit outside of
Nagoriyuki's range to avoid Nagoriyuki's big buttons, then
go in after Nagoriyuki whiffs something. Nagoriyuki is perfectly
happy to keep Sol away from him, since Sol's close range assault is
so deadly. If you hit him with 214H, you get a massive counterhit.
5S can also hit him before 6S starts up, and 5H can do so as well
if you're in level 2 blood, leading to a massive counterhit.

If you happen to block 6S, oftentimes, Sol will do Gunflame. Now,
usually, it's pretty tough to do something about this, but there's a
couple options.

The first and easiest way to strike back is to do Super for 50% meter.
If Sol is close enough, you have time to react and super. This is a great way
to turn the tides - but if you guess, it's possible that Sol could just be
doing 6S on block with no cancel.

The second thing you can do is shoot 236S through the gunflame, dash forward,
and hit him with a close slash. Now the funky thing is, that this is a little
spacing dependent, and you have to be pretty fast on the gunflame - I find
that reversal timing is best, as anything too late might get you hit before
the clone comes out. This is a guaranteed punish when you do it right, but
it's sometimes cause you might not have the blood to spend on this.

The third thing, and actually what I learned most recently, is that at a
pretty fair spacing, 2H will actually hit Sol before the gunflame comes out!
This is a huge, huge punish for a Nago, and a monstrous combo, usually
leading to Sol being in the corner. This is pretty hard to do in Level 0
Blood, so you're gonna wanna be in Level 1, or favorably, Level 2 Blood
to get this to work.

And finally, the last thing is. . Instant block. If you're close enough to
Sol, and you instant block 6S or the Gunflame, you can punish with 5K, go into
6K, and get a huge combo if your blood allots for it.

He still has the option to do Bandit Revolver, Bandit Bringer, or just do
nothing, but it's definitely important to understand this move to better
fight Sol in neutral. Many Sol players will start to vary their approach
once you start to deal with 6S, whether IADing, running straight at you,
or simply running away so they can goad you into a close range engagement.
So thinking about it, implement what you feel is necessary, and then go from
there. Take care.
