A plain steel tube with stubby sights and a detachable block where a grip ought to be. No slide to track, no frame contours to outline a handgun, just dull finish, a concave muzzle face for close contact, and oiled cloth prints left on the benches where it was stripped and checked.
British planners needed a weapon that answered a very narrow requirement. Reports from occupied territories described mechanical noise giving away suppressed pistols after a single shot. Station IX and the Inter-Services Research Bureau were tasked with delivering a tool that generated inspection sheets, shipping notes and coded crate labels long before it produced a report in a stairwell, cellar or farm track.
This documentary follows the bolt handle instead of the trigger finger: the manually cycled action that locked gas in the chamber, the ported barrel and integral suppressor stack, the consumable rubber wipes, and the magazine that doubled as the grip. From swarf in the jigs to reworked tubes, armoury training drills, near-silent trials and procurement arguments, it shows why sacrificing rate of fire produced a pistol that stayed controllable, discreet and mechanically credible.
