I started experimenting with recording direct (without a Kemper, POD, etc) around the end of 2016 and I’ve been through a fair amount of effective-but-bizarre rigs. I had a stretch of time where my stereo fake amp rig was the Old Blood Noise Headphone Amp on the left and the Tech21 Sansamp on the right. No real preamp, mind you, just a compressor and maybe a light drive. I missed amp tone a lot over the years. There’s a magic in the harmonics and response of a real amp that you can’t emulate with janky direct in rigs.
The @bensonamps Preamp sounds really great. Pairing it with the @gfisystem Cabzeus gives me a ridiculously good direct in sound that I would stack up against most other people’s “real” rigs. It’s not the same as a real amp, but for what I do it’s asymptotic to the real thing these days.
