A Charlotte hotel that was turned into a drug recovery center is now seeing changes, more than a week after a woman and young child were found dead inside.
Cedric Dean, who is the CEO of the HELP program, shared a news release late Tuesday morning, saying, in part, that his program would be leaving the former hotel but will remain a program outside of that location. Dean cited safety concerns for program participants, staff and the surrounding community. Dean also placed blame on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, saying the department told him he couldn't remove drug dealers from the property.
WCNC Charlotte has reached out to CMPD for a response to this claim.
Dean's statement said HELP was still committed to helping those in need, and that management would work with public safety experts, attorneys and neighborhood leaders to address security risks, staff protection and how to restore public trust. The statement also said avenues for legal redress and demanding accountability from all parties would be explored.
