Kikindu Market vendors in Namakwekwe in Northern Division in Mbale City are Counting looses after floods destroyed property worthy millions due to a heavy downpour yesterday.
Vendors have attributed the damage to the delay of the completion of the Bridge to the stream the passes north of the market which has forced water find it's way through the Market after it's pathway had been blocked.
Today the Resident City Commissioner Mbale Ahmada Washaki Visited the Scene after affected Vendors had run to his office for assistance.
He tasked the Engineer in charge of the Bridge Micheal Kiboma to explain to the vendors as to why the Bridge hadn't be completed who noted that they had run short of funds but soon the bridge will be completed.
Lazia Neumbe, A vendor dealing in clothes told Mbale Express TV that she had lost her clothes as the result of the flood which swept away her capital.
Nagudi Beatrice like other food vendors noted that business in the market is completely off as customers nolonger access the market except a few of them. She appealed to the Market leadership to cease all fees untill the issue of the stream is sorted.
Sarah Nambozo, A food vendor also noted that the water swept away almost all their capital like the saucepans, Plates, Spoons, benches, Flasks, Jerricans among others. Besides that, she noted that their businesses have been completely Parallised due to lack of customers.
Abdu Razack, A chapati Vendor in Kikindu Market has appealed to the higher authorities to run to them with assistance.
The vendors have also protested against the leadership of the Chairman Gudoi Nathan who they accuse of mismanaging the market and only being money minded. The also told the RCC Ahmada Washaki that the chairman is in Kampala and has no knowledge of the daily running off the market.
The RCC later ruled that the Vice Chairman Gidandi Tom takes over office as the interim Chairman as the vendors look for the replacement of the old chairman after voting.
The RCC later in his interview noted that the market vendors are in a very bad state and need immediate attention on issues concerning flooding, garbage Management and also the issue of the public toilet.
