The escalation follows months of strained relations, with both sides launching cross-border operations. Afghanistan said it carried out a “major offensive” against Pakistani military posts near the frontier, describing the move as retaliation for earlier airstrikes that reportedly killed at least 13 people. Pakistan has said its earlier strikes targeted militants allegedly linked to cross-border attacks. Islamabad also claims that Kabul harbours fighters from Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an allegation strongly denied by the Taliban government.
