• One time back in the early 90’s we took a family trip to Disneyland. It was great! One evening we went out for Chinese food and donuts and there was a table near ours with a kid being interviewed by the news. He was all burnt up like Freddy Krueger, it was wild. Never seen burns that brutal in real life before. Must have been very painful. We didn’t hear what he was saying but the whole thing seemed very intense. We figured it out later that he was the kid that got set on fire by his dad in a motel that they made that TV movie about, David Rothenburg. Turns out his dad was about to be paroled so he was tripping pretty hard on that. Rightfully so. I wouldn’t want a guy who tried to kill me out on the streets again. Scary stuff.
• I was curious so I googled “Charles Rothenburg now?” and in 2021 he was again facing arson charges in San Francisco. Prosecutors say he committed credit card fraud last year against several neighbors and set fire to one victim’s apartment door. Dave Dave passed away in 2018 from pneumonia. No one wins.
• Listening to “Little Billy” with my imagination going full speed must have dredged up this story in my brain. Or maybe it was that Black Easter cover come back to haunt me again. Who knows.
