200 sq inches of filter coverage per ton will give your AC unit maximum efficiency.
Increasing the sq inches per ton will be better.
I am doing a little over double.
My unit is 3 ton = 600 sq inches of filter coverage, 1280sq is what I have now. My system is very quiet now. I may not have to change this for 6 months - 1 year.
The filters I installed are about the same cost as those 1 inch filters.
Fun project.
