Rebuilding the washer pump & possible ENGINE FAILURE on the Corvair?

I had planned on addressing one of the little inconveniences on this car, which was a non-functional windshield washer pump, but looks like the parts are unavailable...period.

But that gives me a chance to talk about a bigger issue with the car. What should we do? Keep as-is, find a used engine and keep driving, or go crazy and build a hotter engine?
