Fast. Chaotic. Explosive. These are the words that come to mind when I think of blast beats. There is no better way to inject some mayhem into your music than utilising this iconic drum technique. There's a lot more to this percussive pandemonium than just whacking the snare really fast though; let's take a deeper look!

There are four main types of blast beat:
The Traditional Blast
The Hammer Blast
The Bomb Blast
The Gravity Blast

Programming blast beats is actually quite difficult. The way the drummer hits the snare in these beats is unlike a regular beat. Putting power into the snare hits is a lot harder during blasts. Velocities and humanisation is crucial when programming blast beats.
