The Supreme Court reserved its order on an interim plea seeking a stay on the August 11 directive, effectively pausing its implementation for now

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal argued that the order contradicted current ABC rules and raised concerns regarding overcrowded shelters and the well-being of the dogs while Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the government, defended the directive, emphasizing the urgency of protecting children and public safety—citing rising rabies cases and risks that sterilization alone cannot mitigate.
