Silver Lake Ghost Town Day Hike Silverton Colorado

Описание: Silver Lake is an easy to moderate day hike. The trail starts at the top of the switch backs. It is easy to follow. This first section of this trail is a bit steep but short lived.

This trail eventually approaches a rock band that from below looks a little sketchy. Once at the bottom of the short cliff the route up and through the rock is obvious. There are a few old steel cables in this area that can be used as a handrail in a few places. When we did this trip there was also a rope in place. Keep in mind that these hand lines are nylon and nylon breaks down quickly in the sun and weather. The line could also be damaged from rock fall. I never trust something that is in place like this. It is best to bring your own if you think you may need it. One thing is certain here, you do not want to fall. It would be quite a drop.

After the rock band the trail levels out up to the lake and ghost town. It is no more than two miles to the lake one way.

Silver Lake is in quite a pretty location surrounded by high peaks. The lake is not as picturesque like Ice Lake or Columbine Lake due to the debris that has been littered in it, mainly steel. Old artifacts litter the shore. The structures that remain are really fun to explore.

The road to the trailhead is good although steep towards the end. Jeep, SUV or truck will have no problems here. Four wheel drive is not a bad idea due to the steep section.
