Описание: The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is the world's first and only tilting bridge. Designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects and engineered by Gifford, this foot and cycle bridge links Gateshead with Newcastle. Completed in 2001, it won the prestigious RIBA Sterling Prize in 2002. As the whole bridge tilts it turns into a grand arch and gives the appearance of a slowly opening gigantic eye. It is fondly known as the 'Blinking Eye' for this reason. The opening and closing of the bridge takes 4 and a half minutes and attracts visitors from all over the world.
