Gujarat HC Overturns Husband's Conviction in 30-Year-Old Case | Kanak News Shorts

Описание: The Gujarat High Court has delivered a significant verdict in a 30-year-old case, ruling that a single slap by a husband does not amount to "cruelty." The court overturned a lower court's 2003 order that had sentenced the husband to 7 years in prison for cruelty (IPC 498A) and abetment of suicide (IPC 306).
The case dates back to 1995 in the Valsad district. The husband had reportedly slapped his wife because she stayed at her parents' house without informing him. Following the incident, the wife committed suicide. However, the High Court observed that a single instance of slapping under such circumstances cannot be legally defined as cruelty, and there was insufficient evidence for abetment of suicide.
