The codependent person, known as ‘the giver,’ feels worthless unless they are needed by — and making sacrifices for — the enabler, otherwise known as ‘the taker.'

Codependency develops in early childhood when this pattern of "merging" with others' needs offered you the safest and best way of staying connected to caregivers who were unable to prioritize you and your needs—many times despite good intentions.

I let go of people who only want to take from me
I actively turn my attention inward when I find myself worrying about someone else
As I build my sense of self, I find strength in myself
