The American Locomotive Company in Schenectady, New York built 106 4-6-6-4 Articulated Challengers from 1936-1944 for freight service on the Union Pacific Railroad to hauls heavy Manifest Mix Trains over Sherman Hill in Wyoming and Wasatch Mountain in Utah some of the challengers burn Coal and Oil others were painted in greyhound scheme on passenger trains with there Smoke Deflectors on sides of the smoke box. Then UP Steam Era end in 1958 all of the challengers are withdrawl from service. Luckily tow challengers are save from the scrapper's torch UP #3977 lives on display at Cody Park, North Platte, Nebraska and UP #3985 was store in the cheyenne roundhouse. In 1975 it was put on display at the UP Cheyenne depot in Cheyenne, Wy unit in 1979 Union Pacific Railroad Empolyees start restored the locomotive to operation in 1981 for Mainline Excursions from the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s then last ran in 2010 were it waits in the UP Roundhouse for rebuilt.
