Iraq deploys units to western Mosul

(14 Feb 2017) The Iraqi army began deploying its units to the western side of the Tigris river on Tuesday in preparation for a renewed assault on Mosul.
The eastern side of the city has already been retaken from the Islamic State group (IS), but the other half is still under militant control.
Dozens of light tanks and other armoured vehicles were seen moving west on the roads south of the city on Tuesday, where the army maintains several bases.
Iraqi special forces units, who are going to spearhead the offensive, are already in place southwest of the city.
The regular army's main armoured element, the 9th division, is now moving its units to the south and west of Mosul.
