The Purpose of Eternal Life — Intimacy with God
John 17:3 (NKJV)
“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
The word “know” used here throughout Scripture speaks of the most intimate, personal relationship possible. Eternal life is not merely about living forever in heaven—glorious as that will be. The true purpose of salvation is intimacy with God—a living, personal relationship with Him.
Many people have cried out to God for the forgiveness of their sins, yet have never pursued intimacy with Him as their goal. Salvation is not just a transaction; it is an invitation into relationship.
Christ died not only to forgive our sins, but to bring us close to God (see 1 Peter 3:18). Through Him, we are welcomed into fellowship, communion, and daily closeness with the Father.
